Winters Bone

In the film Winters Bone, i believe that it relies mainly upon its understanding of its social context as it is a film which aims to bring to light the idea of struggle when it comes to trying to live and with having less money then you need to survive. Since the film is set in Ozark's, southwest Missouri, it means that the directors would of had to study the place to make sure the scenery matched the story when it was telling the audience a story and trying to help them emphasise with the issues the family was facing and understand the films social context. A scene that i felt was very key in bringing to light the ideas of a family struggling without a father and money was when we see Ree Dolly giving up her horse to her neighbours because of the lack of food they had to give the horse. The idea of money was bought up because of how the conversation mainly revolved around the 'price of hay being too expensive' so in order for the horse to survive Ree must give it to her
