Our film, It is what it is, is a mockumentary based on the life of a teenager named Connor. Throughout the planning of the film our initial ideas on how the film would represent the life of Connor was focused primarily on Connors actual life and how he would normally go amongst his day-to-day business. Because of this we didn't have need for props or to set-up scenes, which added to the realism and also helped to create the idea of the mockumentary being based around Social-Realism and the idea that this is how Connor actually lives. This idea was supported from the opening scenes where firstly we seen an upward panning shot of the apartments in which Connor lives at, Followed next by a panning shot of Connors bedroom. Which presents the audience with a massive pile of rubbish and empty takeaway trays with food still present in them. Orson Welles was most known for his long tracking shots within his films, and also for his          mise-en-ecene and cinematography. His use of long tracking shots within films is shown in the scene when Orson Welles character is walking the lady back to the car. This shows the audience a sequence where the two characters are walking from the horse and carriage to the car and where the camera performs a tracking shot, which is, as stated before one of Orson Welles Techniques in which he is most known for and in which gave him his status as an auteur. Orson Welles was born 6th may 1915 and died 10th October 1985 His first film was Citizen Kane, which was release in 1941, in which he co-wrote, produced, directed and starred in as Charles Foster Kane. Key Features of the film Winters Bone. The scene that takes place in a school adds to the authentic of the film. This i due t the film being independent meaning it had a low budget making the scene contrasting as they would have most likely used a real set for this scene additionally most likely used real school children / teachers and students also adding to the authenticity. In addition, Ozark's is in the middle of the USA so would be surrounded by quite a lot of dry land, however in the film we repeatedly see a lot of boats. This brings the idea to mind that Ree and her family are trapped in their own reality. American flag links to the idea of a patriarchal society and that everyone in the society ree is living in is very standard american. The film explores through the ideas of drug abuse with Ree's uncle, and the idea of him trying to escape the  

In the film Winters Bone, i believe that it relies mainly upon its understanding of its social context as it is a film which aims to bring to light the idea of struggle when it comes to trying to live and with having less money then you need to survive. Since the film is set in Ozark's, southwest Missouri, it means that the directors would of had to study the place to make sure the scenery matched the story when it was telling the audience a story and trying to help them emphasise with the issues the family was facing and understand the films social context. A scene that i felt was very key in bringing to light the ideas of a family struggling without a father and money was when we see Ree Dolly giving up her horse to her neighbours because of the lack of food they had to give the horse. The idea of money was bought up because of how the conversation mainly revolved around the 'price of hay being too expensive' so in order for the horse to survive Ree must give it to her ...
